Project Love
Our school has decided to participate in Project Love, a national award-winning program
supporting literacy and global education in Canadian schools. We will be assembling Project
Love kits containing basic educational supplies such as an exercise book, a pencil, an eraser and a
ruler in a Ziploc bag. The Project Love kits will be shipped overseas through CODE, a Canadian nonprofit
organization that has been promoting literacy and education in the developing world for fifty
years.
Project Love helps Canadian children learn about challenges faced by their peers in developing
countries. Simple learning materials, such as paper and pencils, are difficult or expensive to obtain.
The price of a notebook can be a day’s wage and often students erase their notebooks to reuse them.
To date, CODE has sent more than 1.5 million Project Love kits to students in Africa and the
Caribbean. The designated countries for the Project Love kits this year are Haiti (English) and
Malawi (French and French Immersion). Students will also be writing letters to their new friends in
Haiti and Malawi to enclose in their Project Love kits.
The purpose of this activity is to teach our students that they can act as global citizens and make a
tangible difference in the life of a child in Haiti and Malawi.
